Arivo Reference Story: Regional hospital Gummersbach

The regional hospital in Gummersbach upgraded its parking facilities with Arivo‘s ticket-,
barrier- and cashless parking system, enhancing convenience for patients and visitors while
cutting down on administrative and maintenance costs.

The regional hospital in Gummersbach, part of Klinikum Oberberg GmbH, provides numerous parking options for its patients, visitors, and staff with two car parks and three outdoor parking areas.

From a traditional ticket system to a modern Freeflow solution

Previously, the parking facilities were operated with a traditional ticket system with barriers and cash payment machines.

The outdated system frequently broke down, leading to downtime and high maintenance costs. Moreover, obtaining spare parts for repairs became increasingly challenging.

To improve convenience and efficiency, Gummersbach decided to implement a modern parking system that eliminates the need for tickets, barriers, and cash.

Arivo fully aligns with the hospital’s requirements

The goal was to continue managing the parking facilities on behalf of the hospital while keeping operating expenses and acquisition costs as low as possible.

Arivo was chosen as the technology provider because its parking solution satisfies all the hospital's requirements:

  • Modern system: without barriers, tickets, or cash.
  • Simple payment options: Cashless on-site at pay machines and online via Arivo Pay
  • High user-friendliness for parkers: No need to stop for drawing a ticket, feedback systems at exits, and intuitive user interfaces at the payment terminals.
  • Efficient management: Easy handling for hospital employees, thanks to smart administrative software.
  • Adjustable for different user groups:
    • Patients & visitors paying a short-term parking rate.
    • Hospital employees are charged a monthly flat rate and can manage their license plates easily in their account.

From cash to cashless – surprisingly easy

Switching to a completely cashless system was initially unfamiliar for the hospital's visitors.

Despite expecting some initial difficulties, the hospital decided to move forward to lower the system's administrative and maintenance expenses by removing the need for handling cash.

To ensure the smooth operation of the new system, some measures were implemented:

  1. Clear signage indicating parking fees and available payment options on the parking areas.
  2. Feedback at the exits on information displays and red-green traffic lights showing whether the parking fees have been paid.

Within just a few weeks of the system going live, car park users had already adjusted to the new setup. The majority quickly became comfortable with the cashless payment options.

Few parkers settle their fees after leaving. If payments are not completed within 48 hours, the hospital team consistently pursues and duns the parking violation.

Simple for operators and parkers

The hospital staff in charge of the parking facilities especially value the new system's blend of convenience for parkers and the ease of use of the management software.

The system impresses with iits exceptional transparency and a wide range of features for the operator, including access to transaction data and the straightforward cancellation of unpaid parking fees.

According to the hospital, other businesses in the area are now also considering implementing Arivo’s barrier-free and ticketless system.
